ELEVEN
As soon as I realized what was happening, I raced after the photographer. She was already several feet ahead of me, carrying her camera in front of her like a stolen treasure.
I caught up with her at the bottom of the stands. Grabbing her by the shoulder, I waited for her to spin around. I knew her vaguely – she worked at the Waxing Crescent paper. Surely she wouldn’t publish the picture once she knew it featured her own colleague.
“Please delete that picture,” I said, nearly begging. “Anything else, fine, but not that.”
She heaved a sigh. “Seriously, Cassidy? That was the most amazing shot I’ve ever taken. It’s much more interesting than anything else that’s going to happen at these games.”
“Come on, that’s not true. Nobody knows or cares who I am. Besides, reporting on another reporter would be a conflict of interest. And no one at our paper is going to write an article about me.” They might try, but I wouldn’t let them.
She rolled her eyes. “Fine. But I’m going to run a different picture of you, okay?”
She showed me one where I was just sitting, watching the proceedings. Two alphas were on each of my sides, framing me as they gazed at me adoringly.
A soft smile came over my face. Those alphas really did like me, even if I didn’t quite understand why.
“All right,” I said. “I can deal with that. But I’m writing the article myself. The paper isn’t going to spread rumours around me while I’m working there.”
She shrugged. “Talk it over with Warden.”
I headed back to my seat, becoming more conscious with every step that the egg was still inside me. Changing my mind before sitting down, I hurried back down to the bathroom to take it out.
So this relationship was going to be plastered all over the paper. That was a little intense. We’d only just started seeing each other, and we were still learning and getting used to each other.
Oddly enough, I wasn’t too upset. I felt like this relationship was going to be a lasting one. Something about the alphas just fit with me, and I was sure this would have come out eventually. It was just happening quicker than I would’ve expected.
I reached the alphas and gave them a tense smile. “Everything’s okay,” I said. “She’s not going to print that picture. I told her she can print a more PG one, though.”
The alphas frowned, looking at each other. “I wish you would’ve asked us first,” Richmond said.
I swallowed. Why was that? Did they not want the town to know about it? Of course they didn’t. This was so new, so fresh. It was way too early. Yeah, we were dating, but who knew how many women they’d dominated together before? If our picture was in the paper, there’d be no taking it back.
“I’m sorry,” I said, my anxiety rising with every passing moment. “I shouldn’t have made that decision by myself. I told her I’m going to write the article myself.
